Genetic Counseling Program
The Genetic Counseling Program at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education in genetic counseling. The program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Genetic Counseling (ACGC) and is designed in accordance with guidelines provided by ACGC.

The program provides students with a strong foundation in genetic counseling, including clinical rotations, research opportunities, and coursework in genetics, counseling, and ethics.
Clinical Rotations
Clinical rotations are an essential part of the program, providing students with hands-on experience in genetic counseling. Rotations are available at several locations, including:

- University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Prenatal Clinic, Chapel Hill, NC
- University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Pediatric Genetics and Metabolism Clinic, Chapel Hill, NC
- University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Adult Genetics Clinic, Chapel Hill, NC
Clinical Rotation Details
- University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Cancer Center, Chapel Hill, NC: Students will be exposed to all aspects of genetic counseling for cancer genes and syndromes. They will learn how to create computer-generated pedigrees and manage a cancer genetics database.
- University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Prenatal Clinic, Chapel Hill, NC: The UNC-Chapel Hill Prenatal Clinic is a high-volume referral center for obstetricians around the state. Patients are referred due to advanced maternal age, positive prenatal screening results, family histories of genetic conditions, and ultrasound anomalies.
- University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Pediatric Genetics and Metabolism Clinic, Chapel Hill, NC: The Pediatric Genetics Clinic at UNC-Chapel Hill includes individuals and families with a variety of genetic conditions. Students will be expected to take a medical and family history, discuss inheritance patterns, describe testing options, and take an active part in the genetic counseling portion of the visit.
- University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Adult Genetics Clinic, Chapel Hill, NC: Genetic counseling students will be exposed to a wide variety of adult-onset genetic syndromes as well as adults who have genetic conditions that were not diagnosed in childhood.
Research Opportunities
The program provides students with opportunities to engage in research projects, including capstone projects and participation in research studies related to genetic counseling.
