Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship

The Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship is a program offered by the Department of Psychiatry at UMass Chan Medical School.

Rotations

The program includes the following core rotations:


Core Rotations

  • ACTS Clinic: A continuity clinic for psychopharmacology and short-term psychotherapy for substance use disorders and co-occurring disorders.
  • Addiction Consult Service: A consultation team in a 750-bed hospital providing addiction expertise for medical and surgical patients.
  • Adcare: A Level 4 acute detoxification facility with 114 beds for detox and rehab units.
  • Motivating Youth Recovery: A unit treating adolescents between the ages of 13 and 18 who require detoxification and clinical stabilization from substance use.
  • Spectrum Health Systems: A facility where fellows evaluate patients seeking treatment for opioid use disorder and observe methadone induction and titration.
  • Bedford VA: A facility where fellows practice addiction psychiatry in various levels of care, including intensive inpatient services and intensive outpatient services.
  • Teleaddiction Consultation: A telepsychiatry service providing addiction consultation to other treatment facilities within the UMass system.

  • Substance Use Disorders in the Pregnant and Postpartum Patient: A rotation in the Karen W Green Clinic for Pregnancy and Recovery, focusing on medication considerations in pregnancy and legal and ethical issues.
  • Forensic Addiction Psychiatry: A rotation observing the legal process of involuntary hospitalization for substance use disorders and attending drug court proceedings.
  • Medical Toxicology: A rotation attending rounds for the medical toxicology service covering the emergency department and in-patient units.
  • Liver Clinic: A rotation providing addiction consultation for patients with alcoholic liver disease.
  • Pain Clinic: A rotation observing a pain specialist in the evaluation and management of patients with chronic pain.
  • Novel Treatments for Mood Disorders: A rotation in an esketamine clinic, evaluating new patients and monitoring patients in active treatment.
