Doctoral Psychology Internship Program

About the Program

The UNLV PRACTICE Institute's Child and Adolescent Psychology Internship Program is carefully structured to fully meet the standards set by the American Psychological Association (APA) and the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC). The 12-month program provides 2,080 hours of supervised clinical training, in alignment with Nevada's licensure requirements for psychologists, as well as those of several surrounding states.

Program Overview

• Full-time, 12-month, 2,080-hour internship (July 1 – June 30)
• Training in health service psychology with emphasis on child and adolescent populations
• Designed to meet APA requirements; APPIC membership anticipated in Spring 2026
• Meets Nevada psychology licensure requirements and aligns with many surrounding states

Program Aims & Objectives

The program trains scientifically minded child and adolescent clinical psychologists who are competent in:

• Evidence-based assessment of children, adolescents, and families
• Developmentally sensitive, trauma-informed, culturally responsive intervention
• Interprofessional consultation in medical and community systems
• Applying scholarly inquiry and scientific knowledge to practice

Clinical Training Activities

• Weekly Training (Tuesdays & Thursdays): On-campus didactics, seminars, professional development, and direct patient care
• Community-Based Services: Embedded in community site(s) with a supervising licensed psychologist from UNLV PRACTICE Institute
• Consultation Teams: Interdisciplinary team case conferences and rounds
• Supervision: At least 4 hours/week (2 individual, 2 group) with licensed psychologists
• Assessment & Therapy: Psychological and neurodevelopmental assessment, individual/family/group therapy (CBT, trauma-informed, third-wave CBT), parent training, consultation
• Seminars & Didactics: 4 hours/week core curriculum covering ethics, diversity, development, psychopathology, assessment, intervention, supervision, and research literacy
