Program Overview

Program Overview

The ROTC program is divided into phases: the basic program and the advanced program. The techniques and principles of leadership and management are stressed throughout both phases.

Program Requirements

The program has specific requirements for completion.

  • The basic summer camp (Leader's Training Camp) is normally scheduled after the student's sophomore year and is competitive for entry.
  • The camp substitutes for the basic program and is geared for students who join the ROTC program late and wish to finish the curriculum in four semesters (two years).

Basic Program

The basic program is offered to students at CSN, NSC, and UNLV for the first two years of the ROTC program.

  • The basic course studies Army history, organization, and structure.

Advanced Program

The advanced program consists of the final two years and concentrates on tactical operations and military instruction as well as advanced techniques of management, leadership, and command.

  • It is open to undergraduate and graduate students who have successfully completed the basic program or the six-week ROTC basic summer camp, or to those who have completed basic training and have completed a minimum of 60 college credits.

Military Science Minor

A military science minor can also be earned by completing the lecture courses of the basic and advanced program, along with completing the Military History requirement, plus two elective courses (28 credits minimum).

  • This minor can be completed even by UNLV students who are unable to meet the requirements to earn a commission in the United States Army.
