Program Overview


Experiential Learning Program

Overview

The objective of the UNLV Engineering Experiential Learning Program is to immerse international undergraduate engineering students into the United States academic experience. The program places special emphasis on customized programs that cater to the international undergraduate engineering students. The UNLV Engineering Experiential Learning Program will help participating students become better adapted at becoming productive within the global workplace or to pursue graduate studies. Annually, two sessions shall offer students more flexibility:


  • Winter Session (Up to Eight Weeks) - the beginning of January to the end of February
  • Summer Session (Up to Eight Weeks) - the beginning of June to the Middle of August The above dates will be subject to change, and partner universities can request a late arrival to better meet their needs. Target students will be sophomore to senior level undergraduate students in any engineering or computer science major.

Application Deadline

  • Summer Session: November 15
  • Winter Session: April 15

Application Materials

  • Online or paper-based application form
  • A copy of official college transcript
  • A copy of the photo page of your passport (must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your period of stay in the United States)

Program Elements

English as Second Language (ESL)

UNLV has developed special English programs that are tailored to meet the needs of various student groups. These programs are taught by English Language Center faculty. They have extensive experience serving international students with varying degrees of preparation who come from all over the world. Students are placed into different levels and courses according to an initial assessment of their English preparation levels.


Research Experiences

The College of Engineering features many world-class laboratories led by well-known faculty in many fields including transportation, environmental engineering, robotics, smart materials, and computer security.


Research Seminars/Workshops

One research seminar will be offered to introduce students to research methodology, research infrastructure, ongoing research projects within the College of Engineering, and career possibilities including industry and graduate studies.


American Cultural Experiences

Several American cultural experiences will be organized to allow participating students to interact with American UNLV College of Engineering students.


Field Trips

A few field trips to relevant sites, such as Hoover Dam, resorts on The Strip, solar power plants, and local industries will be scheduled to introduce students to local attractions within and around Las Vegas.
