UNLV GenCyber Camp
The UNLV GenCyber Camp is a free cybersecurity summer camp for high school students in Southern Nevada. The program aims to educate students on safe online behavior, promote digital citizenship, and foster interest in cybersecurity careers.
About the GenCyber Camp
The camp is coordinated by a diverse team of faculty, staff, and student mentors, led by UNLV GenCyber camp director, Professor Juyeon Jo, and lead instructor, Professor Yoohwan Kim from the Computer Science Department at the College of Engineering.
Topics Covered
The camp covers various topics in cybersecurity, including:
- Cybersecurity concepts
- Encryption techniques
- Cybercrimes and protection
- Social and personal computer security
- Critical infrastructure protection
- Wireless and mobile security
Who Can Attend
All current high school students in Clark County are eligible to participate in the GenCyber camp. The camp is offered during a one-day Spring camp and a five-day summer camp. While participation in both the Spring and Summer camps is highly recommended, it is not mandatory.

The UNLV GenCyber Summer Camp is sponsored jointly by the National Security Agency and the National Science Foundation.

The camp provides a unique cybersecurity learning experience, with hands-on activities and direct interaction with cybersecurity experts. The application process covers both the Spring and Summer camps.
GenCyber Camp Highlights
The camp has been successfully running for seven years, providing a valuable experience for high school students. Although the camp will be taking a break in 2026, it is expected to resume in summer 2027.
