Program Overview
Introduction to the Tech Trekker Program
The Tech Trekker Program is a free and flexible STEM program designed to support teachers in the Las Vegas, Nevada area. The program is led by a team of faculty and students in STEM fields who are dedicated to providing cutting-edge technology to teachers and students.
Tech Trekker Services
The program offers a range of services, including:
- Borrowing Equipment: Specialized equipment is brought into K-12 classrooms to supplement teacher lessons and assist in meeting the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) relating to engineering design and technology.
- Classroom Visits: A team of STEM Ambassadors facilitate different activities and support teachers in using the selected equipment.
- Community Events: The program accommodates special events, such as STEM/STEAM nights or Career Fairs, in its schedule.
Equipment and Lessons
The program provides:
- Equipment: Teachers can borrow STEM equipment and kits to enhance their lessons and support hands-on learning.
- Lessons: The program offers lessons aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards, designed to engage students in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math through hands-on activities.
Activities
The program offers a wide range of interactive activities that can be facilitated in the classroom, designed to spark curiosity, build critical thinking, and inspire students through real STEM experiences.
Design Activities
The program also provides easy, low-cost activities that let families explore STEM together at home, encouraging creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork using everyday household materials.
Program Participation
To participate in the program, teachers can follow these steps:
- Review the equipment and lesson plans available.
- Fill out the Interest Form.
- Communicate with program staff to schedule a visit.
