The School of Nursing at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas offers a Master of Science degree in Nursing program designed to prepare students for entry into the profession. The program comprises 46 credit hours of graduate coursework.
Program Overview
The School of Nursing's Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program is designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and abilities requisite to the safe, effective, and efficient advanced practice of nursing. Coursework includes classroom, clinical, and research/service-learning activities. The School of Nursing offers two options for a Master of Science degree in Nursing: Family Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Each plan is intense and demanding.
Curriculum
The online MSN program uses a variety of teaching strategies designed to actively engage students. Two-day orientation sessions are held on campus before the beginning of each fall semester to enhance the connections among students and with the nursing faculty. The curriculum provides a comprehensive background in the art and science of Nursing and prepares graduates to sit for the National Certification examinations.

Certification Exam and State of Nevada Licensure Requirements Disclosure
After successfully completing the program, students become eligible to take the National certification exam. Graduating students must take and pass the National certification exam for advanced practice to become a licensed advanced practice registered nurse. In addition to taking and passing the certification exam, graduating students must apply for licensure to practice as an advanced practice registered nurse in each U.S. state or territory where they will work.
Nevada School of Nursing - Educational Requirements
The UNLV School of Nursing has determined that the UNLV School of Nursing Master of Science in Nursing program meets the educational requirements for state licensure in Nevada as outlined in NRS 632 and NAC 632.
Nevada Advanced Registered Nurse - Non-Educational Requirements
Non-Educational requirements, as outlined in NRS 632 and NAC 632, include:
- Must have an unencumbered Nevada Registered Nurse license
- Must pass national certification exam
- Must provide official transcript from MSN program
- Must take and submit fingerprints and background check
- Must submit an application and pay a fee
- Must be of good moral character
