Introduction to the Master's in Hotel Administration Program
The Master's in Hotel Administration (HOA) degree program is offered by the Harrah College of Hospitality. This program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education in hotel administration, preparing them for successful careers in the hospitality industry.
Application Deadlines
The application deadlines for the HOA program are as follows:
- Fall Term Admission: May 1 for international applications, July 1 for domestic and permanent resident applicants
- Spring Term Admission: October 1 for international applications, November 15 for domestic and permanent resident applicants
Application Requirements
The required application materials include:
- Online Application and Application Fee: $60 for domestic applicants, $95 for international applicants
- Statement of Purpose: a one-page statement providing background information, ability to succeed in the program, and career goals
- Letters of Recommendation: two letters from faculty members or current/previous managers
- Resume: a one to two-page document detailing education, job experiences, research experiences, and achievements
- Transcripts: official transcripts from each postsecondary institution attended, including degrees, coursework, dates awarded, and grades received
Transcript Requirements for International Students
For international students, transcripts must be accompanied by an English translation certified as true by a university official or approved translating service. Notarized copies of originals or translations are not considered official. Additional requirements apply for students from China and India.
Admission Criteria
The admission criteria for the HOA program include:
- A minimum overall undergraduate GPA of 2.75 or higher, or a 3.0 or higher undergraduate GPA in the last 60 hours
- Preferred but not required: a minimum of one-year management experience in the hospitality field or three years of front-line experience in the hospitality industry
Standardized Test Scores
Applicants to the HOA program are not required to submit GMAT or GRE exam scores, but it is recommended to strengthen the application, especially for those with lower undergraduate GPAs.
English Proficiency
International students must submit proof of English proficiency, such as TOEFL or IELTS exam scores.
Funding and Scholarships
The Harrah College of Hospitality offers graduate hourly positions to master's students enrolled in the program. Additionally, the college awards up to 10 scholarships ranging from $1,500 to $4,000 to incoming students. Graduate Assistantship (GA) positions are also available outside of the college.
Graduate Assistantship
To be considered for a GA position, applicants must submit the GA application at the same time as their admission application. The GA application is located in the GradRebel Gateway.
