Program Overview
Introduction to the Master's Program
The Master's Program in Sustainable Water Management and Technologies is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the water cycle, water treatment, and water management. The program is interdisciplinary, incorporating aspects of engineering, chemistry, biology, and economics to provide a holistic approach to water management.
Objectives of the Program
The program aims to:
- Form personal investigators and complete the training of professionals with the necessary elements from different disciplines to interpret the set of knowledge, technologies, and instruments to carry out sustainable water management.
- Provide students with the conceptual foundation necessary for understanding the water cycle, water treatment, and water management.
- Equip students with the skills to design and calculate solutions for water treatment, reuse, and disposal.
- Enable students to evaluate the alternatives for the disposal of non-conventional resources, including economic aspects.
Structure of the Program
The program consists of 8 thematic modules, covering:
- The Water Cycle: Analysis of the fundamental concepts of hydrogeology and surface water regulation.
- Water Quality: Description of the components present in water, theoretical aspects of equilibria, and phenomena occurring naturally or induced artificially.
- Technologies for Treatment: Fundamentals of physical, chemical, and biological technologies used for water treatment.
- Treatment Plants: Knowledge of treatment lines for different types of plants, operation, maintenance, and control parameters.
- Normative: Understanding of specific legislation and recommendations limiting water disposal and application for different uses.
- Non-Conventional Resources: Introduction to resources derived from water reuse and desalination.
- Assessment of Needs and Resources: Procedures for projecting needs and resources at different scales.
- Economic Management: Models of water management, costs associated with the water cycle, and economic evaluation of water use.
Plan of Studies
The plan of studies includes:
- Theoretical Classes: Lectures on the different modules.
- Practical Classes: Exercises, laboratory practices, and visits to treatment plants and other facilities.
- Work of End of Master: A research project or thesis under the tutelage of a professor, focusing on a specific problem related to water management.
