Introduction to Hacettepe University's Food Engineering Program
Hacettepe University's Food Engineering program is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in the food industry. The program is accredited by the Engineering Education Programs Evaluation and Accreditation Association (MÜDEK) and is recognized for its excellence in food science and technology.
Program Objectives
The program aims to provide students with a strong foundation in mathematics, science, and engineering, as well as specialized knowledge in food science and technology. The objectives of the program are to:
- Analyze and design food production systems and processes, considering factors such as food safety, ethics, and sustainability
- Prepare students for careers in the food industry, academia, or research and development
- Foster a sense of social responsibility, ethical awareness, and environmental consciousness
Program Outcomes
Upon completion of the program, graduates will possess the following skills and knowledge:
- A strong foundation in mathematics, science, and engineering, as well as specialized knowledge in food science and technology
- The ability to analyze and design food production systems and processes, considering factors such as food safety, ethics, and sustainability

Specific Program Outcomes
The program outcomes are as follows:
- Possess a sufficient background in mathematics, science, and engineering, as well as food science and technology
- Identify and solve complex engineering problems in the field of food engineering
- Analyze and design food production systems and processes, considering factors such as economy, environment, sustainability, health, and ethics
- Design and conduct experiments, as well as analyze and interpret data
- Demonstrate an understanding of project management, risk management, and change management
- Be aware of current issues in food engineering and their impact on society, environment, and food safety
- Demonstrate a sense of professional responsibility, ethical awareness, and social consciousness
- Pursue lifelong learning and professional development in the field of food engineering
- Utilize modern techniques, tools, and information technologies to analyze and solve complex problems in food engineering
- Work effectively in teams and demonstrate leadership skills
- Communicate complex ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing, in Turkish and English
Accreditation
The Food Engineering program at Hacettepe University is accredited by the Engineering Education Programs Evaluation and Accreditation Association (MÜDEK) for a period of five years, starting from September 30, 2021.
Rankings
Hacettepe University's Food Engineering program is ranked among the top programs in Turkey and globally, according to the ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects. In 2021, the program was ranked between 201-300 globally and first in Turkey in the field of Food Science and Technology. Similarly, in 2020 and 2019, the program was ranked between 201-300 and 151-200 globally, respectively, and first in Turkey. In 2018, the program was also ranked between 151-200 globally and first in Turkey.
