Program Overview


Introduction to the Psychiatric Nursing Department

The Psychiatric Nursing Department is one of the eight departments of Hacettepe University School of Nursing, established according to the 27th November 1990 decision of The Executive Board of Turkish Higher Council. The department has a long history, dating back to 1968 when it started conducting psychiatric nursing master's programs, and 1972 when it began PhD programs within the scope of Hacettepe University Institute of Health Sciences.


Mission

The department aims to train undergraduate and graduate nurses who adopt scientific thinking and norms in the field of mental health and psychiatric nursing as principles. The mission also includes training nurses who are creative, questioning, productive, and leaders, with comprehensive knowledge of national and international literature, and the ability to transfer literature information to practice, education, and research in accordance with the needs of individuals, families, and society.


Infrastructure

The department utilizes classrooms and simulation laboratories within the faculty, as well as standardized patient laboratories in the Department of Medical Education and Informatics, to develop effective communication skills and practical skills related to mental health and psychiatric nursing. Additionally, the department conducts research and practice activities in various areas, including psychiatry, surgery, and internal clinics of hospitals, community mental health services, treatment/rehabilitation centers for alcohol-substance addiction, child monitoring centers, nursing homes, and non-governmental organizations.

The department has 1 associate professor, 2 assistant professors, and 7 research assistants on duty.
