  • Can behave as a professional practitioner of the specialist area towards patients and colleagues
  • Has in-depth knowledge of basic oral biology
  • Has extensive knowledge in pharmacology, including drug side effects
  • Has extensive knowledge of immunological processes, diseases that are immunologically conditioned and treatment with drugs that affect the inflammation process
  • Has extensive knowledge in microbiology and diseases that are microbiologically conditioned
  • Has extensive knowledge of diseases that are genetically determined

Skills

  • Can diagnose diseases of the teeth, jaws and adjacent structures
  • Can identify indications and contraindications for surgical treatment
  • Can evaluate laboratory tests
  • Can perform all types of surgical interventions in teeth, jaws and adjacent structures
  • Can critically evaluate specialist literature
  • Can receive referred patients for counselling, advanced diagnostics and necessary surgical treatment

  • The language of instruction is, as a rule, Norwegian or Scandinavian, but certain subjects can also be taught in English

Teaching and examination

  • Scope of work: In order to achieve the learning objectives, students must expect to work 40 hours a week with their studies
  • Learning activities: The theoretical education consists of courses, lectures and seminars
  • Knowledge test: Written and oral tests at the end of each semester
  • Practical-clinical skills: Reported through regular follow-up

Practice

  • The clinical teaching involves patient treatment with guidance
  • Documentation is required that the candidate has participated in all parts of the specialist education

  • One will make use of the internationalization agreements that UiT has at all times
  • As of today, the other teaching centers for oral surgery and oral medicine have collaborations with: Malmø/Lund, Karolinska in Stockholm, Aarhus, Boston, South Africa to name a few
