Program Overview


Program Details

The program PFF-3001 is a practice course in the 4th year of the teacher education program for grades 8-13.


Program Description

The program aims to further develop the student's knowledge, skills, and competence in teaching, working methods, assessment, and adapted education. Students will also gain knowledge of the school's organizational and cultural frameworks and its cooperation with parents and support agencies. Professional ethical issues will also be included.


Learning Outcomes

After completing the practice course, students should have the following learning outcomes:


  • In-depth, experience-based knowledge of learning, learning processes, working methods, teaching materials, and assessment forms
  • Experience-based knowledge of the teacher's role, rights, and responsibilities, and of teacher work at the organizational level
  • Knowledge of the school as an institution and school leadership
  • Knowledge of the school's cooperation with parents and other support agencies
  • Knowledge of the teacher's responsibility for handling professional ethical challenges

Skills

Students should be able to:


  • Be a clear class leader and lead learning work adapted to different students
  • Justify and apply a wide range of working methods
  • Justify different assessment forms and assessment criteria and use them actively in guidance and interaction with students
  • Evaluate whether the student has sufficient benefit from the training
  • Cooperate with practice teachers, other teachers, and management about teaching and participate actively in the professional community
  • Build relationships with students and cooperate with actors relevant to the school's work

Competence

Students should be able to:


  • Plan, justify, implement, and evaluate their own teaching work in a self-contained manner in accordance with the school's curriculum, legal, and value-based frameworks, with particular emphasis on variation and adaptation
  • Build good relationships and communicate well with students and colleagues

Teaching and Examination Language

The language of instruction and examination is Norwegian.


Teaching

Practice in itself does not provide separate study points but is considered an obligatory part of the overall education. Practice consists of a total of 8 weeks - 40 days in the spring semester. Practice is usually carried out as pair practice.


Examination

The examination form is a practice evaluation with a pass/fail scale.


Mandatory Work Requirements

The following work requirements must be completed and approved before one can present oneself for examination:


  • Delivered planning document before practice visit from university teacher

Continuation Examination

A student who receives a fail grade in practice can make one new attempt to pass the practice. A new attempt can only be made when the next cohort completes the practice the following academic year.


Responsible Unit
