Program Overview
The Musikkteknologi program at UiT The Arctic University of Norway is a one-year study program that focuses on music technology and production. The program is designed for students who want to specialize in modern recording techniques and music production, and who aim to pursue a career in music production and studio work.
Admission Requirements
To be admitted to the program, students must have general study competence or real competence, as well as pass an admission test. The admission test consists of:
- 2-5 examples of the student's own work in music technology, with a maximum duration of 15 minutes
- An interview with the applicant
Program Description
The program focuses on:
- Studio recording
- Use of music technology in composition/songwriting
- Live electronics/performance use of music technology
- Editing, processing, and mixing of sound and music
- PA/concert sound and live recording
- Basic acoustic theory and information technology

Program Structure
The program consists of two semesters with teaching and guidance in individual and group settings. The teaching is a combination of classroom teaching, practical exercises in the studio, composition using music technology, and workshops where students play concerts or provide concert sound for other students.
Language of Instruction
The language of instruction is Norwegian, but literature may be in English.
Teaching and Assessment
The part-time study program takes place over two semesters with teaching and guidance in individual and group settings. The teaching is a combination of classroom teaching, practical exercises in the studio, composition using music technology, and workshops where students play concerts or provide concert sound for other students. The examination is three-part, consisting of a recording, a composition, and an oral exam. Students are expected to have access to their own computer and recording software.
