Program Overview


Program Overview

The Musikk - 緳sstudium program is a one-year study program offered by UiT The Arctic University of Norway. The program is designed to provide students with a broad introduction to the world of music, both theoretically and practically, and prepare them for further music studies.


Program Description

The program consists of the following courses:


  • Hovedinstrument (30 credits) - solo and ensemble repertoire from epochs, genres, and styles central to the instrument
  • Geh鷨 og teori (10 credits) - music theory, listening, and aural skills, as well as arrangement and composition
  • Kor (5 credits) - use of the voice, communication, and ensemble playing
  • Grunnleggende piano (5 credits) - basic skills for solo playing and accompaniment on the piano
  • Valgemner (10 credits) - either alternative 1 or alternative 2

Alternative 1

  • Innf鷨ing i musikkproduksjon (5 credits) - processing and recording of sound
  • 喌ing og musikkformidling (5 credits) - relevant topics related to preparation and execution of performances

Alternative 2

  • Musikkundervisning (10 credits) - the ability to justify, discuss, and implement teaching plans in music

Admission Requirements

  • General study competence
  • Admission test, which is digital and consists of:
    • Video recording of 1-2 self-selected pieces on the instrument

Learning Outcomes

After completing the program, students will have the following learning outcomes:


Knowledge

  • Music communication
  • How to develop oneself musically
  • Learning by listening, imitating, and practicing
  • Basic music theory
  • Concert planning
  • Mastery techniques for different performance situations

Skills

Students will be able to:


  • Lead, create, and participate in singing and ensemble playing
  • Realize and communicate a relevant repertoire on their main instrument
  • Use a simple setup to record and play back sound
  • Use theoretical and practical exercises in music theory and aural training
  • Master the basic techniques for playing and accompanying themselves on the piano

General Competence

Students will be able to:


  • Take responsibility for their own artistic musical development

Language of Instruction

The language of instruction is Norwegian.


Teaching and Assessment

The program includes both joint classroom teaching, practical workshops, and room for self-development and in-depth study, where students themselves control how they want to use their time. Students are given responsibility and freedom to drive their own development, with guidance from competent teachers.


Assessment forms used: Performing exam, practical exam, oral exam, and portfolio assessment
