The Paramedisin program at UiT The Arctic University of Norway is a three-year bachelor's degree program that provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to work as paramedics in emergency medical services.
Program Description
The program is designed to provide students with a solid foundation in paramedicine, including theoretical and practical knowledge of emergency medical care, patient assessment, and treatment. The program includes both theoretical and practical training, with a focus on developing students' critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Admission Requirements
To be eligible for the program, applicants must have a general university admission certificate or equivalent real competence, as well as a valid driver's license (class B) and a passed physical entrance exam. Applicants with real competence must have at least five years of relevant work experience, which can be replaced by up to two years of military or civilian service, relevant education, or unpaid work.
Program Structure
The program is organized into 12 different subjects, 18 weeks of supervised practice in ambulance services, and 18 weeks of in-depth practice in relevant fields. Each semester consists of 30 study points, and the program is completed over three years, totaling 180 study points.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completing the program, students will be able to provide medically sound pre-hospital treatment of patients with acute and chronic illnesses, as well as somatic and mental conditions. Students will also be able to develop their own competence and work independently as paramedics.
Job Prospects
The program qualifies students to apply for authorization as paramedics and provides a good foundation for various career paths in emergency medicine, both in the public and private sectors.
Access to Further Studies
With a bachelor's degree in paramedicine, students can also pursue further education and earn a master's degree in health sciences or specialize in emergency medicine.

Teaching and Assessment
The program uses various teaching methods, including lectures, seminars, study groups, written assignments, self-study, simulation and skills training, and clinical studies. The program also includes various forms of assessment, such as written exams, individual assignments, and practical tests.
Practice
Paramedic practice is supervised practice in ambulance services and other relevant practice locations in municipal and specialist health services. The practice consists of 60 study points and is completed in semesters 3 and 6.
Exchange
Students can apply to complete parts of their education abroad. The applicant is assessed based on academic and personal qualifications.
