Job Prospects
Nurses have the competence to work in all areas of the healthcare service, regionally, nationally, and internationally. With a Bachelor's degree in Samisk Sykepleie, graduates have a versatile education that is attractive in the labor market and provides many opportunities for further education and specialization.
Access to Further Studies
With a Bachelor's degree in Nursing, students can pursue further education and specialization. At UiT, students can take a Master's degree in Nursing, with specializations in anesthesiology, pediatric nursing, intensive care nursing, oncology nursing, or operating room nursing. Students can also become public health nurses or midwives.
Practice
Practice studies and practice-oriented teaching make up a total of 90 study points and are an integrated part of the program. The scope of practice studies is 2300 hours, in accordance with Directive 2005/36/EC on the recognition of professional qualifications, with later amendments, including Directive 2013/55/EU, regarding content and scope.
Language of Instruction
The language of instruction is primarily Norwegian. The Sami language can be used when all participants understand Sami. Other Scandinavian languages and English can be used. The examination language is Norwegian. Students can apply to have the examination questions and/or answer the exam in a language other than the one specified in the course description, in accordance with the Regulations on Studies and Examinations at UiT § 20.
Teaching and Assessment
The program's workload corresponds to 180 study points over four years on a part-time basis. This means that students' workload in theoretical subjects includes approximately 30 hours per week to achieve learning outcomes. In practice periods, the workload is estimated at 40 hours per week, as practice takes place full-time.
Exchange
Internationalization is a focus area for the Bachelor's program in Nursing. Students can, after application, be given the opportunity to complete parts of their education abroad. The applicant is assessed based on academic and personal qualifications. Stays abroad must be at universities or colleges with which agreements have been established.
For students who are granted exchange stays during their studies, it may be possible to adapt work requirements or exams related to subjects in the study program that are ongoing while they are on exchange. The adaptation must be approved by the study leader and will be included as part of the student's Learning Agreement before departure.
Information about various exchange programs and agreements can be found on UiT's website about Student Exchange.
It is possible to take practice abroad in indigenous areas, through established exchange agreements at UiT.
