Program Overview

The program in question is PED-2007 Digitale verktřy og lćring, which translates to "Digital Tools and Learning." It is a 10-credit course offered by the University of Tromsř.


Program Description

Digital tools are essential in today's knowledge society. Learning increasingly occurs in interaction with digital tools, which are organized into and utilized for acquiring knowledge and skills. This course explores how digital tools can facilitate learning and discusses the challenges and opportunities of using digital tools for learning.


Program Objectives

After completing the course, students will have the following learning outcomes:


  • Knowledge: Students will be able to explain the use of digital tools from central theoretical perspectives on learning, discuss factors that hinder and promote learning through the use of digital tools, describe different digital working methods in relation to fundamental learning perspectives, and have knowledge of the importance of digital competence for education.
  • Skills: Students will be able to present content in a project assignment for others using a suitable digital tool, find, evaluate, and refer to relevant information and subject matter to solve academic problems, reflect on their own work and adjust it based on peer review, evaluate others' academic texts and provide feedback, and develop and compile work requirements in a written portfolio.
  • Competence: Students will be able to plan and carry out a project in a group and present the results individually, reflect on the significance of digital tools and different learning perspectives, discuss how learning is affected by the use of digital tools, and apply research literature, theory, and method in an empirical study of digital tools.

Admission Requirements

The course requires general study competence or real competence. The application code for single courses is 9199.


Study Reduction

Students who have previously passed the course PED-1007 Digitale verktřy og lćring will receive a reduction in the number of study points.


Course Content

The course introduces various perspectives on learning, focuses on students' reflection on their own learning views related to research traditions, and how it interacts with technology. It also provides an understanding of the meeting between technology and different knowledge practices.


Recommended Prior Knowledge

Recommended prior knowledge includes PED-0001 Introduction to Pedagogy and Special Education, PED-0100 Introduction to Pedagogy and Special Education, PED-1001 Pedagogical Psychology, and PED-1005 Pedagogical Philosophy.


Teaching and Examination

The course consists of lectures and seminars. Group work with a project assignment that is presented is a part of the course. The implementation of the project assignment requires participation in this part of the teaching.


The course is evaluated according to the department's guidelines.


Examination Form

The examination form is a portfolio assessment with a character scale (A-E, fail).


Mandatory Work Requirements:

The following work requirements must be completed and approved before one can take the exam:


  • Write two texts that will be included in the portfolio assessment, approximately 1200 words each.
  • Carry out a project assignment and present it to fellow students using a chosen digital tool.
  • Comment in writing on fellow students' texts between teaching sessions.

Portfolio Assessment

The student must submit a portfolio assessment. The portfolio includes:


  • Texts previously submitted as work requirements.
  • Documentation of the use of a chosen digital tool (see work requirement 2), including text that justifies the choice of tool and reflections on experiences.
  • Text where the student summarizes and reflects on the content of the portfolio assessment.

Before submitting the portfolio assessment, the student can revise/improve texts previously submitted as work requirements.


The assessment portfolio is an individual submission totaling approximately 4000 words.


Continuation Examination

A continuation examination is arranged for students who did not pass the last ordinary examination in the course.
