Norwegian Language Courses for International Students and Employees at UiT

The Arctic University of Norway offers Norwegian Language Courses for international students and employees at levels A1, A2, and B1.

Course Overview

These courses are designed for employees and international students at UiT, with the following details:

• Level A1: Introductory Level, first part, for students with no prior knowledge of Norwegian.
• Level A2: Introductory Level, second part, for students with some prior knowledge of Norwegian.
• Level B1: Intermediate Level, running over two semesters (B1A, B1B).

Course Details

• Level A1: 48 hours, 4 hours weekly, using chapters 1-6 of the textbook, with additional material provided by the teacher.
• Level A2: 48 hours, 4 hours weekly, using chapters 7-10 of the textbook, with additional material provided by the teacher.
• Level B1: 48 hours per semester, 4 hours per week, using the textbook "STEIN P≈ STEIN" by Ellingsen & McDonald (2021).

Registration and Placement

• Registration deadline: Monday, January 26, 2026.
• Placement test: Wednesday, January 28, 6:00pm7:30pm, room E-0101 (HSL faculty), required for Levels A2 and B1.
• Priorities for course placement:
  • Employees in permanent positions
  • Exchange students with language training stipulated in their exchange agreements
  • PhD students and postdocs
  • Employees in temporary positions
  • Other students
  • Students or employees who have previously been offered a place in the same-level course
  • Students or employees with Danish or Swedish as their native language

Eligibility

• Levels A1, A2, and B1 are exclusively for employees and registered international students at UiT Campus Troms¯.
• The courses are not offered to family members of students or employees.
