Program Overview
Introduction to the Young Physicist Camp 2024
The Young Physicist Camp 2024 was organized by the Pusat Perubatan USM Bertam, in collaboration with the Unit Imejan, Onkologi and Radioterapi, Unit Perubatan Nuklear, and Jabatan Pengimejan Bioperubatan IPPT. The program was held at the Ruang Lobi, PPUSMB, IPPT USM, and received support from the Pusat Sains Negara Cawangan Wilayah Utara (PSNCWU) and Persatuan Fizik Perubatan Malaysia (MAMP).
Objective of the Program
The primary objective of the Young Physicist Camp 2024 was to inspire and nurture the interest of secondary school students in the field of physics, particularly in its applications in medicine. The program aimed to provide students with a deeper understanding of the role of physics in medical diagnosis and treatment.
Program Structure
The program consisted of several activities, including:
- Physics Explore Race & Demonstrasi: This activity involved students participating in a series of challenges and demonstrations that showcased the applications of physics in medicine.
- Bicara Kerjaya: This session focused on career opportunities in physics-related fields, including diagnostic imaging, radiology, nuclear medicine, and biomedical engineering.
- Lawatan ke Bas Pameran Sains Bergerak: Students had the opportunity to visit the Science on Wheels mobile exhibition, which featured interactive displays and experiments.
Target Audience
The program was designed for secondary school students in grades 3, 4, and 5, as well as their accompanying teachers. A total of 100 participants, including 68 students and their teachers, attended the program.
Outcome
The Young Physicist Camp 2024 successfully achieved its objective of inspiring and educating students about the applications of physics in medicine. The program provided a unique opportunity for students to engage with experts in the field and gain hands-on experience with physics-related experiments and demonstrations. By fostering interest and awareness about the importance of physics in medicine, the program aimed to encourage students to pursue careers in this field and contribute to the advancement of medical physics.
