Program Overview


Dermatopathology Fellowship

Program Description

This is an ACGME accredited one-year training program offered by the Departments of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and Dermatology. The dermatopathology service receives over 10,000 cases each year along with hundreds of consults cases. Emphasis is placed on microscopic morphology and correlation with clinical findings and ancillary studies (immunohistochemistry, molecular testing, and direct immunofluorescence), but there is also ample opportunity for research and teaching. For the fellow with a dermatology background, eight months of training will be comprised of anatomic pathology with an emphasis on surgical pathology (50%) and dermatopathology (50%). For the fellow with a pathology background, eight months of training will be comprised of clinical dermatology (50%) and dermatopathology (50%). The remaining four months will consist entirely of dermatopathology training. Throughout the year, the fellows will be expected to attend and participate in daily dermatopathology consensus conference, grand rounds, tumor board, and lectures in dermatology and pathology. The faculty includes Drs. John Metcalf, John Maize, Dirk Elston, Jessie Forcucci (fellowship director), and other members of the pathology and dermatology faculty.


Requirements

  • Candidates must have completed an ACGME accredited program in anatomic pathology, anatomic and clinical pathology, or dermatology, and be eligible for a South Carolina medical license.

Stipends

  • Salary is set by the University guidelines for PGY 5 Level applicants.
