Program Overview
Introduction to the Body Imaging Fellowship
The non-ACGME Body Imaging Fellowship is a one-year program focused on educating a limited number of trainees in advanced Body Imaging. The goal is to produce high-quality practitioners who aim to be leaders in the field and excellent clinical consultants. The position is a junior faculty (Clinical Instructor) position within the MUSC College of Medicine.
Eligibility and Requirements
- Applicant must have completed a 4-year radiology residency program (MD or DO applicants accepted).
- Applicant must be able to obtain a permanent SC medical license prior to the start of the fellowship.
- Licensure requirements can be found through the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation.
About the Fellowship
Clinical Experience
The Body Imaging Fellowship provides extensive experience in:
- Abdominal and pelvic MRI
- Advanced CT techniques including Dual Energy and Photon Counting CT
- Options for electives (e.g., cardiac imaging)
- Opportunities to be involved in ultrasound and ultrasound-guided procedures
The Body Imaging Division works closely with other radiology divisions and numerous clinical departments throughout the larger MUSC system. The division is primarily responsible for at least 4 nationally accredited Tumor Boards, covering a range of clinical specialty areas.
Educational Program
The educational program is specifically designed for the advanced trainee who is a motivated learner. It includes:
- In-depth education in advanced body MRI protocol design and interpretation of images
- Weekly tumor boards led by the Body Imaging fellows with attending support
- Work with advanced AI tools
- Dual energy, photon counting, and CT scanning interpretation
- Availability to perform basic US-guided procedures
- Quarterly departmental grand rounds
- Opportunities for paid moonlighting
Research Opportunities
Fellows are encouraged and expected to participate in an academic project during their fellowship. They are provided with the time, resources, and mentorship necessary to be successful in this endeavor. Research projects can be devised by the fellow or they may join one of the many ongoing projects within the division.
Application and Interviews
Interested applicants must be board eligible or board certified by The Board of Radiology. The application process includes submitting the Universal Fellowship Application and all supporting documentation, which must include:
- Three letters of recommendation, one from the training program director
- Curriculum vitae
- Personal statement
- Proof of graduation from medical school
- USMLE scores
Applications for the next available academic year are accepted until July 31 for the initial round of interviews. Applications will continue to be reviewed until all positions are filled. All applications are reviewed by the Program Director, and applicants will be contacted regarding an invitation to have a one-on-one interview after receipt and review of the completed application.
Fellowship Details
- The fellowship is a residential program.

- The program aims to produce leaders in the field and excellent clinical consultants.
- The position includes minimal "call" responsibilities in the early evenings or weekend days (no overnight) within the division, with opportunities for compensated voluntary call outside the division for those interested.
