Meds-Peds Residency Curriculum

The Meds-Peds Residency Curriculum is designed to provide residents with a comprehensive education in both internal medicine and pediatrics. The curriculum includes a variety of clinical training experiences, electives, and educational conferences.

Electives

The Meds-Peds Residency Program offers a variety of electives, including:


  • Med-Peds Clinic Elective: Provides additional primary care time in the Med-Peds Clinic in North Charleston, typically done in PGY3/PGY4 years. Residents also participate in and assist with the clinic curriculum.
  • Med-Peds Transitions Rotation: A rotating elective through specialty clinics providing transitional care, done in the 3rd or 4th year. Examples include sickle cell disease, adult CHD, SLE clinic, renal transplant, and HIV.

Education Tracks

During their training, MUSC Med-Peds residents have the opportunity to participate in either or both of the specialized tracks offered through the Pediatrics Residency Program. These tracks offer additional opportunities for clinical experiences and scholarly activity within each field of interest. The available tracks include:


  • Advocacy
  • Global Health
  • Medical Education

Research

Residents have the opportunity to participate in research projects and learn more about the department's research initiatives.

Residents attend a variety of educational conferences, including:


Med-Peds Conferences

  • Noon Conference: Quarterly, run by Med-Peds residents
  • Academic Half Day: Quarterly
  • Business meeting: Monthly
  • Journal Club: Monthly

Internal Medicine Conferences

  • Morning Report: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday
  • Intern Academic Education Conference: Tuesday
  • Upper Level Academic Education Conference: Thursday
  • Grand Rounds: Thursday morning

Pediatrics Conferences

  • Morning Report: Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday
  • Academic Half Day: Wednesday
  • Grand Rounds: Friday morning
