PhD Accounting and Finance

The PhD Accounting and Finance is a research-based program that provides students with the opportunity to undertake advanced empirical research in the fields of accounting and finance.

This research program gives students in-depth knowledge of research methods used in capital market analysis and allows them to explore areas high on the agenda of financial institutions, such as:

• Banking and financial institutions
• Mergers and takeovers
• The role of financial analysts
• Shareholder activism

Students can follow a 'three paper' thesis or a traditional thesis approach, with support from supervisors to submit work to conferences and international journals.

• A good Masters degree or equivalent in a related subject
• A well-developed research proposal
• Attendance at an interview/Skype interview for acceptance
• Acceptance subject to research expertise in the department

Structure

Course Structure

• A research degree with no taught structure, allowing for in-depth investigation of a chosen topic

Assessment

• Regular meetings with supervisors and submission of work for feedback
• Progress board every six months to mark progress and set objectives
• Attendance at conferences to test research findings and thesis on an international stage
