Introduction to the BA (Hons) Art History Program

The University of Essex offers a comprehensive BA (Hons) Art History program designed to provide students with a broad foundation in the history of visual culture. UK Entry Requirements

• A-levels: BBB - BBC or 120 - 112 UCAS tariff points from a minimum of 2 full A-levels.
• BTEC: DDM - DMM or 120 - 112 UCAS tariff points from a minimum of the equivalent of 2 full A-levels.
• Combined qualifications on the UCAS tariff: 120 - 112 UCAS tariff points from a minimum of 2 full A-levels or equivalent.
• IB: 30 - 29 points in the IB Diploma or 120 - 112 UCAS tariff points to include a minimum of 2 Higher Level subjects.
• Other qualifications are considered on a case-by-case basis.

English Language Requirements

Structure of the Program

The BA (Hons) Art History program is structured over three years for the standard full-time option, with the possibility of extending to four years for a placement year or year abroad.

Placement and Year Abroad

• Placement Year: Students can opt for a placement year, gaining relevant work experience within an external business or organisation.
• Year Abroad: The opportunity to spend a year studying abroad at one of the University's partner universities, experiencing other cultures and languages.

Teaching and Assessment

• Teaching includes lectures, seminars, and discussion classes, with an emphasis on object-based learning and curatorial experience.
• Assessment methods include coursework (e.g., essays, analysis of source material, exhibition reviews, virtual portfolios), coursework reports, and oral presentations, as well as written examinations.

Fees and Funding

• Home/UK Fee: ｣9,790 per year (fees will increase for each academic year of study).
• International Fee: ｣21,500 per year (fees will increase for each academic year of study).
• Placement Year: 20% of the standard tuition fee for that year.
• Study Abroad: 15% of the standard tuition fee for that year for a full year abroad.
