Introduction to BSc (Hons) International Business and Entrepreneurship
The BSc (Hons) International Business and Entrepreneurship course at the University of Essex is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of international business and entrepreneurship. Overview
The course is a three-year full-time program, with the option to take a fourth year to study abroad or complete a placement year. The program is based at the Essex Business School, which is the largest department at the University of Essex. The school is home to a number of research groups, including the Strategy, Operations and Entrepreneurship Group, which focuses on international business and entrepreneurship.

Placement Year
The placement year is an optional component of the course, which allows students to gain valuable work experience in an external business or organization. The placement year is designed to provide students with a competitive edge in the graduate job market and to give them key contacts within the industry.
Year Abroad
The year abroad is another optional component of the course, which allows students to study at one of the University's exchange partners in the United States, Europe, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Latin America, the Middle East, Hong Kong, or Japan. The year abroad is designed to give students the opportunity to experience other cultures and languages, to broaden their degree socially and academically, and to demonstrate to employers that they are mature, adaptable, and organized.
Teaching and Assessment
The course is taught through a combination of lectures, seminars, and computer-based lab sessions. Modules are delivered by experts in the field, as well as guest speakers. Assessment is through a combination of traditional methods, such as end-of-year exams and multiple-choice questions in class tests and essays, as well as more innovative and creative assessments, such as laboratory work, poster presentations, real-business case problems, and group presentations.
Fees and Funding
The fees for the course are:
- Home/UK fee: Ł9,790 per year
- International fee: Ł22,600 per year There may be scholarships, bursaries, or discounts available to help with the cost of the course.
Entry Requirements
The entry requirements for the course are:
- GCSE: Mathematics C/4
- A-levels: BBB - BBC or 120 - 112 UCAS tariff points from a minimum of 2 full A-levels
- BTEC: DDM - DMM or 120 - 112 UCAS tariff points from a minimum of the equivalent of 2 full A-levels
- IB: 30 - 29 points in the IB Diploma or 120 - 112 UCAS tariff points to include a minimum of 2 Higher Level subjects
- English language requirements: IELTS 6.0 overall, or specified score in another equivalent test

- Most English language qualifications have a validity period of 5 years
- The University accepts a wide range of English language qualifications, including IELTS, TOEFL, and Pearson Test of English
