PhD Business Analytics
Overview
The PhD Business Analytics is a postgraduate research course designed to meet the demand for analytically trained researchers in academia and practice. The program equips students with classical statistical techniques and modern computational methods to tackle cutting-edge research questions relevant to today's businesses, markets, and societies using small, medium, and big data sets.

Program Structure
The program is administered by Essex Business School, the largest department at the University of Essex. Students join the School's Strategy, Operations, and Entrepreneurship Group and benefit from rich expertise in analytical and quantitative research methodologies.
Entry Requirements
UK Entry Requirements
- A good Masters degree, or equivalent, in a related quantitative subject such as economics, statistics, or mathematics.
- A well-developed research proposal is also essential.
- Students will normally be required to attend an interview/Skype interview for acceptance, and acceptance is subject to research expertise in the department.
International & EU Entry Requirements
The University accepts a wide range of qualifications from applicants studying in the EU and other countries.
English Language Requirements
If English is not the first language, students require IELTS 6.5 overall, or equivalent, with a minimum score of 5.5 in all other components.
Course Structure
A research degree doesn't have a taught structure, giving students the chance to investigate their chosen topic in real depth and reach a profound understanding.
Assessment
Students begin their studies by meeting with their supervisors and undertaking an intensive induction programme. They attend advanced research methods training and undertake compulsory modules tailored to their individual research needs.
