PhD Entrepreneurship
The University of Essex offers a PhD in Entrepreneurship, a postgraduate research course that provides a route to doctoral study for those without a Master's degree or with little to no research training.
Overview
The Integrated PhD Entrepreneurship is a four-year program that allows students to spend their first year completing a full-time Master's-level qualification, equipping them with the necessary business knowledge and research skills to begin PhD study. The PhD will then be studied full-time over the next three years. Students can choose to follow a traditional thesis approach or a 'three paper' thesis, producing three research articles framed by an introduction and conclusion.
Entry Requirements
- UK entry requirements: A 2:2 degree or equivalent in a related subject.
- International & EU entry requirements: A wide range of qualifications are accepted.
- English language requirements: IELTS 6.5 overall, or equivalent, with a minimum score of 5.5 in all other components.
Structure
The first year of the Integrated PhD is spent completing a full-time Master's-level qualification. The PhD will then be studied full-time over the next three years. Students will meet regularly with their supervisors and undertake an intensive study program, including advanced research methods training and compulsory modules tailored to their individual research needs.

Assessment
Students spend their first year completing a full-time Master's-level qualification, then their PhD is studied full-time over the next three years. Regular meetings with supervisors and an intensive study program are part of the assessment process.
Fees and Funding
- Home/UK fee: Ł5,238 per year
- International fee: Ł20,625 per year
- Fees will increase for each academic year of study.
