MA Environment, Society and Culture

The MA Environment, Society and Culture is a postgraduate course that explores the complex relationships between human beings and the environment. The course is based in the School of Philosophical, Historical, and Interdisciplinary Studies at the University of Essex.

• Interdisciplinary MA Dissertation (80 credits)
• Global Challenges in Interdisciplinary Perspective: Water Conflicts, Water Cultures (20 credits)
• Environmental Philosophy (20 credits)
• Optional modules (40 and 30 credits)

Teaching

Postgraduate students in the School of Philosophical, Historical, and Interdisciplinary Studies usually attend a one-hour lecture and one-hour seminar for each module each week or workshops. Modules include introductions to the topic by the tutor, presentations by students, and discussions based on a program of reading.

Assessment

Assessment is normally on the basis of coursework and the supervised dissertation. The dissertation allows students to focus in-depth on their chosen topic from April onwards, enabling them to gain in-depth knowledge of an area that interests them.

• English language requirements: IELTS 6.5 overall with a minimum component score of 6.0 in writing and 5.5 in all other components
