Program Overview

Introduction to the MSc Data Science and its Applications Program

The MSc Data Science and its Applications program is offered in two study modes: Full-time and Part-time, and is located at the Colchester Campus. Data is at the heart of the digital economy, and as a result, data science and artificial intelligence are key fields of future employment, with an ever-increasing number of roles across the globe for those who have experience in these fields.

Program Overview

Health, finance, education, and other areas are seeing significant growth, but are being hampered by a lack of good candidates with the right qualifications. The program is designed to help those who have previously studied the humanities or social sciences, or who have some science and data experience through degrees in life sciences or business.

Program Details

Through this degree, students will gain the key skills needed to flourish in a future career. Depending on the course, students will learn:

  • Programming in R
  • The ability to design and implement novel solutions
  • Machine learning
  • Statistical modelling

Admission Criteria

The program particularly welcomes applications from individuals who are members of under-represented groups in computer science and mathematics, including:

  • Applicants who are female
  • Applicants who are Black
  • Applicants who are disabled

Program Goals

The program aims to provide students with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in a career in data science and artificial intelligence, and to address the lack of qualified candidates in these fields.
