Program Overview


Overview of the LLM International Law Program

The LLM International Law program at the University of Essex is a vibrant and fast-moving area of law that offers students the opportunity to study across a wide range of modules. The program is designed to provide students with an excellent foundation for any career, and it is available on both a full-time and part-time basis.


Program Structure

Entry Requirements

The entry requirements for the program are:


  • A 2:2 degree in law or a joint honors degree in another subject with law
  • Applicants who do not hold a law degree but have at least six months of relevant professional experience, traineeships, or professional qualifications/certifications can apply and will be considered
  • International and EU entry requirements are also available, and the university accepts a wide range of qualifications from applicants studying in the EU and other countries.

English Language Requirements

If English is not the first language, the university requires IELTS 6.5 overall with a minimum component score of 6.0 in writing and 5.5 in all other components.


Career Prospects

Graduates of the Essex Law School have gone on to a wide variety of careers in international and intergovernmental organizations, governments, commerce, banking, non-governmental organizations, and the legal profession. The university works with the Employability and Careers Centre to help students find out about further work experience, internships, placements, and voluntary opportunities.
