Overview of the LLM International Law Program

The LLM International Law program at the University of Essex is a vibrant and fast-moving area of law that offers students the opportunity to study across a wide range of modules. The program is designed to provide students with an excellent foundation for any career, and it is available on both a full-time and part-time basis.

Program Structure

The program consists of several components, including:

• A dissertation that is an independent and research-led piece of work under the guidance of an academic supervisor

Dissertation

The dissertation is a 12,000-word research-led piece of work that is supervised by an academic member of staff. Students have the freedom to select their own dissertation topic, and the dissertation module provides guidance on topic selection and the writing process.

Fees and Funding

The fees for the program are:

• ｣11,025 for home/UK students
• ｣23,875 for international students
• There may be scholarships, bursaries, or discounts available to help with the cost of the program.

Entry Requirements

The entry requirements for the program are:

• A 2:2 degree in law or a joint honors degree in another subject with law
• Applicants who do not hold a law degree but have at least six months of relevant professional experience, traineeships, or professional qualifications/certifications can apply and will be considered
• International and EU entry requirements are also available, and the university accepts a wide range of qualifications from applicants studying in the EU and other countries.

English Language Requirements

If English is not the first language, the university requires IELTS 6.5 overall with a minimum component score of 6.0 in writing and 5.5 in all other components.

Career Prospects

Graduates of the Essex Law School have gone on to a wide variety of careers in international and intergovernmental organizations, governments, commerce, banking, non-governmental organizations, and the legal profession. The university works with the Employability and Careers Centre to help students find out about further work experience, internships, placements, and voluntary opportunities.
