Introduction to the Integrated Master in Mathematics: Mathematics

The Integrated Master in Mathematics: Mathematics at the University of Essex is a comprehensive four-year program designed to provide students with a deep understanding of mathematical concepts and their applications. This course is ideal for students who wish to pursue a career in mathematics or related fields, such as science, engineering, or finance.

Overview

The program starts in October 2026 and is offered on a full-time basis. It is based at the Colchester Campus, which is situated within 200 acres of award-winning parkland. The course is taught by the School of Mathematics, Statistics and Actuarial Science, which is renowned for its research excellence and teaching quality.

Course Structure

The course structure is flexible, with a mix of core, compulsory, and optional modules. The first year consists of core modules, including Calculus, Matrices and Complex Numbers, Statistics I, Mechanics and Relativity, Mathematical and Computational Modelling, Introduction to Geometry, Algebra, and Number theory, and Discrete Mathematics. In the subsequent years, students can choose from a range of optional modules, allowing them to specialize in areas that interest them the most.

Modules

Some of the modules offered in this program include:

  • Calculus
  • Matrices and Complex Numbers
  • Statistics I
