Program Overview

The History Internship program offers students professional experience outside of the classroom in various fields, including public history, editorial, teaching, public service, research, or digital humanities.


Program Details

Internship Requirements

  • Students must arrange the internship in consultation with the department chair or designate.
  • Students work three hours per week per credit hour.
  • Students must submit an annotated time sheet and a 3-5 page reflection paper on the work experience at the end of the term.

Credit Hours and Grading

  • The internship is available for 1-3 credit hours.
  • The program uses S/U grade assessment.

Prerequisites

  • Prerequisite: Consent of the department chair or designate.

Special Requirements for Interdisciplinary Minor in Public History

  • Students with an Interdisciplinary Minor in Public History must complete a 3-credit Internship in History at an approved institution, such as an archive, art or history museum, or historical society.
  • Students must arrange the internship in consultation with the department chair or designate and complete an internship agreement.
