Program Overview
Introduction to the ATHENS Program
The ATHENS program is a European initiative aimed at developing the engineering and intercultural competencies of students from European technical universities. The program involves 15 universities from 15 countries and offers specialized courses.
Program Details
The ATHENS program consists of intensive 5-day courses (30 hours) and a cultural program called European Dimension Activities (10-15 hours). The courses are held twice a year, in March and November, in each of the participating countries.
Courses Offered
The following courses are offered as part of the ATHENS program at Politechnika Warszawska:
- WUT10: "Sound: Hearing and Acoustical Measurement" at the Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology, led by Prof. Dr. Hab. In. Jan era
- WUT11: "Energy Sources, Conversion and Storage" at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics, led by Prof. Dr. Hab. In. Tomasz Winiewski
- WUT18: "Smart & Sustainable: Functional Materials for the Future" at the Faculty of Materials Engineering, led by Dr. Hab. In. Joanna Zdunek
- WUT18: "Designing for dementia" at the Faculty of Geodesy and Cartography, led by Dr. In. Arch. Agnieszka Ciela
- WUT21: "Lithium-ion battery technology and beyond" at the Faculty of Chemistry, led by Dr. Hab. In. Leszek Niedzicki
- WUT22: "Synthesis and bioanalytical applications of metal-based nanoparticles" at the Faculty of Chemistry, led by Dr. Hab. In. Mariusz Pietrzak, Prof. PW
Participation
In the autumn session, 142 students from 13 partner universities in 12 countries participated in the ATHENS program at Politechnika Warszawska. Additionally, 181 students from Politechnika Warszawska participated in courses organized by partner universities.

The next ATHENS session will take place in March 2026.
