Master of Science in Business Analytics

The Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSBA) program is a STEM-designated program that provides hands-on training to develop business analytics skills, tools, and methodologies. The 30-credit program includes a combination of online courses and in-person evening courses that prepare students to gather, process, analyze, and deliver data in organizational and business settings.

Program Overview

The MSBA program has a student-faculty ratio of 20:1 and is designed to be completed in a flexible format. The program enables students to pursue their passion for analytics while working full-time, and its flexibility makes it easy to apply what is learned in the classroom directly to professional careers.

MSBA Curriculum

The MSBA requires 30 credits for degree completion. The curriculum includes a combination of online courses and in-person evening courses, with example topics including marketing analytics, database management, visualization, and the implications of AI. The program includes 21 core credits in the areas of statistics, business administration, and management information systems. The remaining nine credits may be fulfilled with electives from a variety of disciplines, including accounting, computer science, industrial engineering, sociology, logistics, and more.

Admission

Applications are reviewed on a rolling admission basis. Application files must be completed with all required official documents before they will be reviewed. Admission decisions will not be made based upon incomplete application files or unofficial documentation.

Application Instructions

Domestic students may apply to begin the MSBA program in the fall, spring, or summer. There is no application deadline for domestic students. International students may apply to begin the MSBA program in the fall or spring, with application deadlines of May 1 for fall semester and October 1 for spring semester.

Official GMAT or GRE Score

Applicants seeking consideration of a GMAT/GRE waiver must request it. Waivers are considered on a case-by-case basis and are not guaranteed. Criteria that may qualify an individual for consideration of an exam waiver include:

• A cumulative post-secondary GPA of 3.5 or higher from accredited or otherwise recognized institutions of higher education
• Successful completion of two or more post-secondary degrees (bachelor's level or higher)
• Substantial post-baccalaureate professional work experience (typically a minimum of five years) and demonstrated leadership ability

Proof of English Proficiency

All applicants must demonstrate proof of English proficiency in order to be considered for graduate admission. Proof of English proficiency must be demonstrated in one or more of three ways:

• The applicant was raised in a country in which English is the only official language
• The applicant has earned a bachelor's degree or higher from a recognized institution within a country in which English is the only official language
• The applicant submits an official English language test score (TOEFL iBT: 71 or higher; IELTS academic: 6.0 or higher; PTE academic: 50 or higher; or Duolingo: 105 or higher)

Cost

MSBA students are charged the graduate business differential tuition rate, based on their official residency.

• North Dakota Residents: $746.82 per credit, $22,405 total (30 credits)
• WRGP Region Residents: $929.71 per credit, $27,891 total (30 credits)
• Approved Minnesota Residents (Reciprocity Application): $1,085.48 per credit, $32,564 total (30 credits)
• All Other U.S. Residents: $1,254.76 per credit, $37,643 total (30 credits)

Financial Assistance

Graduate Assistantships

Graduate assistantship opportunities within the College of Business are very limited. All MSBA students are admitted without funding. There may be case-by-case opportunities to apply for graduate assistantship positions after having gained admission to the program, but they are not guaranteed.

Scholarships

College of Business graduate student scholarships are quite limited. Current graduate students may apply for scholarships by submitting the general university scholarship application during the application window between November 1 and March 1 each year.

Employee Reimbursement

Many companies provide educational benefits to their employees in the form of tuition reimbursement or other financial support. Students who plan to work as benefitted employees during their graduate studies are encouraged to speak with their supervisor and/or Human Resources department to see if such a program exists.

Federal Student Aid

U.S. citizens and eligible non-citizens may qualify to be considered for federal student aid by completing the FAFSA. Questions regarding financial aid should be directed to NDSU's One Stop office.
