The university catalog provides information on various programs of study, including undergraduate and graduate programs.

English Program

The English program offers a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree, as well as a minor in English.

Major Requirements

To graduate with a major in English, students must complete the following requirements:

• Earn a minimum of 120 credits in approved coursework.
• Satisfy the general education requirements as specified by the university.
• Maintain a minimum institutional GPA of 2.00 based on work taken at NDSU.
• Complete at least 30 credits as resident credits at NDSU.
• Complete at least 36 credits in courses numbered 300 or higher.
• Students presenting transfer credit must meet the NDSU residence credits and the minimum upper-level credit requirements.

The university general education requirements include:

Major Requirements

Students must earn a grade of 'C' or better in all courses used to fulfill requirements for the English major. The major requirements include:

• ENGL 467: English Studies Capstone Experience (3 credits)

Minor Requirements

The minor in English requires 21 credits and offers two options: Literature and Writing.

Literature Option

The Literature option requires:

• ENGL 272: Literary Analysis (3 credits)
• Early Period Literature Survey Course (3 credits)
• Later Period Literature Survey Courses (3 credits)
• Minor Electives (9 credits)
• Writing Elective (3 credits)

Writing Option

The Writing option requires:

• ENGL 275: Introduction to Writing Studies (3 credits)
• Electives (15 credits)
• Literature, Film, or Linguistics Course (3 credits)
