Women and Gender Studies

Major Requirements

The Women and Gender Studies major requires a minimum of 120 credits to graduate. The degree can be either a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or a Bachelor of Science (B.S.).

University Degree Requirements

To graduate, students must:

1. Satisfactorily complete all requirements of the curriculum in which they are enrolled.
2. Earn a minimum total of 120 credits in approved coursework.
3. Satisfactorily complete the general education requirements as specified by the university.
4. Maintain a minimum institutional GPA of 2.00 based on work taken at NDSU.
5. Complete at least 30 credits as NDSU resident credits.
6. Complete at least 36 credits in courses numbered 300 or higher.
7. Meet the NDSU residence credits and minimum upper-level credit requirements for transfer credits.

The general education requirements include:

• Communication (C): 12 credits
  • ENGL 110: College Composition I

  • COMM 110: Fundamentals of Public Speaking

• Quantitative Reasoning (R): 3 credits

AHSS Degree Requirements

• Bachelor of Science (B.S.) Degree: Completion of a minor program of study.
• Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) Degree: Second-year language proficiency at the college level required.

Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences College Requirements

An additional 9 credits are required by the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. These credits must be taken in the following areas:

• Area One: Humanities (3 credits)
  • ARB, ENGL, FREN, GERM, HIST, HUM, PHIL, RELS, SPAN, TIPS, or WGS
• Area Two: Social Sciences (3 credits)
  • ANTH, CJ, COMM, EMGT, POLS, SOC, or WGS
