Certificate Requirements
The Certificate in Professional Ethics requires a total of 9 credits. The program consists of three main components: Ethical Theory and Application, Critical Reasoning, and Applied Ethics in the Profession.
Ethical Theory and Application
Students must select one course from the following options, each worth 3 credits:
- PHIL 111: Professional Responsibility and Ethics
- PHIL 210: Ethics
- PHIL 215: Contemporary Moral Issues
Critical Reasoning
Students must select one course from the following options, each worth 3 credits:
- PHIL 157: Critical Thinking and Informal Logic
- PHIL 257: Traditional Logic
- PHIL 370: Social and Political Philosophy
Applied Ethics in the Profession
Students must select one course from the following options, each worth 3 credits:
- PHIL 216: Business Ethics
- PHIL 225: Environmental Ethics
- PHIL 327: Ethics, Engineering, and Technology
- PHIL 475: Philosophy of Law With philosophy program approval, an alternative ethics course taught outside the philosophy program can be substituted. This may include courses from fields such as nursing or communications. A substitution form must be submitted to the Office of Registration, signed by the philosophy program coordinator, for approval.
