Description

This 30-hour asynchronous course explores social media algorithms, influencer culture (micro, macro, and AI), parasocial relationships, and online privacy. The final project is a polished mini-unit ready for immediate implementation.

Syllabus, Objectives, and Outcomes

Objectives:

• Summarize major risks and benefits of social media use for different age groups (module 1).
• Describe and demonstrate how social media algorithms work in a student-friendly manner (module 2).
• Identify different types of influencers and the advantages and disadvantages of parasocial relationships (module 3 and 4).
• Develop a mini unit to support student digital well-being in developmentally appropriate ways.
