Introduction to the Master's Program in Operations Research
The Master's program in Operations Research at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) is a unique postgraduate program in Hungary. The program is organized by the Optimization Research Group of the BME Faculty of Natural Sciences and is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education in operations research.
Program Description
The program is a 4-semester course that includes a diploma thesis. The program is taught in a part-time format, with classes held twice a week in the afternoon, and some basic courses are taught in blocks on weekends. The program is highly application-oriented, with a strong emphasis on providing students with the skills to model and solve real-world optimization problems.
Target Audience
The program is designed for professionals working in fields where optimization problems are common, such as economics, engineering, and computer science. The program is ideal for those who want to acquire methods to solve problems efficiently in their work.
Admission Requirements
To be eligible for the program, applicants must have a master's degree (or equivalent) with a minimum of 3 semesters of mathematics courses (at least 10 credits) and at least 1 semester of computer science or informatics courses (at least 4 credits). The mathematics courses must include analysis and linear algebra.
Program Structure
The program consists of 4 semesters, with the following courses:
- First semester: Operations Research Mathematical Foundations, Operations Research, Probability and Statistics, Linear Programming
- Second semester: Nonlinear Programming, Combinatorial Optimization, Programming Skills, Thematic Laboratory 1
- Third semester: Operations Research Program Systems, Control Systems, Econometrics, Game Theory, Thematic Laboratory 2
- Fourth semester: Global Optimization, Stochastic Optimization
