Program Overview
School Library Information Specialist (MS)
The School Library Information Specialist (SLIS) Program in the College of Education leads candidates to a Master of Science (MS) degree with initial licensure and a Tennessee License to teach grades K-12.
Program Requirements
Candidates must apply for admission to the Teacher Education Program (TEP) before the end of the second semester and fulfill all TEP requirements. Initial Licensure SLIS candidates must apply for admission to TEP. Candidates must pass the 5312 School Library Media exam to be licensed to teach in Tennessee. This is also required for candidates looking to qualify for a Job Embedded Practitioner License.
Educative Teacher Performance Assessment (edTPA)
All candidates obtaining an initial licensure degree and a TN Teaching license must complete ICL 7808 - Clinical Teaching and ICL 7993 - Professional Seminar. Each candidate must complete and pass the national scored assessment.

Additional Requirements
- An application is required one (1) semester prior to completing the Advanced Clinical Practicum - ICL 7800.
- All candidates must take the Professional Seminar to obtain licensure - ICL 7993.
- Candidates must successfully pass ICL 7993, including the edTPA.
- Job Embedded candidates will submit the "In Lieu of Clinical Teaching" packet.
