Extended Program

The University of Memphis offers a 10-semester Master's Degree in SLP – Pilot Program. This program is designed for students who require a non-traditional, less intensive track, supporting those with life circumstances that demand greater flexibility, such as the need to work, caregiving responsibilities, or other personal considerations. The program maintains the same rigorous academic and clinical standards as the traditional track.

  • Students in the 10-semester program receive high-quality classroom instruction and extensive clinical training delivered by nationally recognized faculty.
  • The program has been ranked among the top in the country for over 20 years.
  • Courses and clinical placements are held in person, with the curriculum mirroring that of the full-time program over an extended timeline of 10 semesters for those needing an extended, part-time program.
  • Students benefit from individualized clinical experiences at the on-campus Memphis Speech and Hearing Center and a wide range of external placements across hospitals, schools, and private clinics in Memphis and the surrounding areas.
  • The program is designed to ensure that by graduation, students have the knowledge and skills required to enter the Clinical Fellowship and begin their professional careers with confidence.

Application Process

  • Begin the CSDCAS Application.
  • DOs
    • Visit the website and read the detailed instructions for completing the application process.
    • Allow at least 3 to 4 weeks for official transcripts to be posted in the CSDCAS application.
    • Include relevant experiences related to clinical, service/leadership, research/work involvement.
    • Select letter writers carefully, ensuring they can speak to unique qualities beyond academic abilities.
    • Provide a link to the YouTube video created in the Custom Questions section of the application.
    • Upload Fall 2025 grades as soon as they are available.
    • Proofread the application carefully.
    • Submit the application at least 4 weeks prior to the deadline to ensure all materials are received and verified.
  • DON'Ts
    • Send transcripts to the University of Memphis; all materials are to be sent and uploaded directly to CSDCAS.
    • Wait to request transcripts or letters of recommendation.
    • Wait to enter grades from the transcript.
    • Assume grades will be automatically entered into the application if the fee hasn't been paid and the application hasn't been e-submitted.
    • Include every experience ever had in the experience section; only focus on relevant experiences submitted concisely.
