Program Overview
The Artist Diploma in Performance is a one-year program designed for gifted performers seeking advanced studies without the additional academic demands required in a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) or Ph.D. program. This program is limited to the most advanced instrumentalists and vocalists who are in the beginning stages of professional careers as performers.
Program Requirements
Applicants must have already earned a master's degree to be eligible for the program. Working closely with a faculty mentor, students will supplement their existing qualifications with a selection of graduate-level music courses and performance experience with School of Music ensembles.
Program Outcomes
Performance students will demonstrate the following outcomes:
- Technical mastery and musical expertise requisite to having a significant professional career in their chosen performance area
- Historical and theoretical knowledge supportive of the development of individualized interpretations within a full range of musical styles
- Display a thorough understanding of the history of their medium
- Comprehensive knowledge of the repertoire and literature specific to the area of specialization
Program Structure
The program includes a selection of graduate-level music courses and performance experience with School of Music ensembles, tailored to the individual student's needs and goals. A sample degree plan is available for the Artist Diploma in Performance.
