Program Overview
Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps
The Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) is a program offered at The University of Memphis.
Program Overview
Instruction in Aerospace Studies has been an important phase of the curriculum at The University of Memphis since 1951. The program offers an opportunity to develop leadership and teamwork skills that will serve students well for the rest of their life.
Program Structure
The Department of Aerospace Studies provides a four-year program of instruction for all qualified U.S. citizens, male and female, divided into two phases, each of two years duration.
- The first phase, termed the General Military Course, offers instruction in the foundation of leadership and Aerospace-age citizenship.
- This phase is designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of leadership and citizenship in the aerospace age.
- The second phase, termed the Professional Officer Course, builds upon these foundations in developing upperclassmen who are to become Air Force officers and serve on active duty upon graduation and commissioning.
- This phase is designed to develop students into professional officers who are ready to serve in the Air Force.
Cross-Town Agreement
The program also offers a Cross-Town agreement, which allows students to participate in the program at The University of Memphis while still attending full-time at one of the local participating colleges.
Instruction and Administration
Active duty Air Force personnel, approved by the University president, are detailed by the Department of the Air Force to administer the instructional program. Air Force officers serve under appointment by the University as Professor or Assistant Professor of Aerospace Studies.
Scholarship Opportunities
There are local scholarship opportunities available within the Detachment.
