Program Overview

Program Details

The program in question appears to be related to the study of Atmosphere Pollution and Global Warming. Below are the extracted details of this program.

Program Description

  1. Structure and composition of the clean atmosphere.
  2. Sources of atmospheric pollutants (natural, anthropogenic).
  3. Types of sources (continuous and accidental; point, line and area sources).
  4. Processes affecting airborne pollutants (dry and wet deposition, chemical transformations, advection, turbulent and molecular diffusion) and their dependence on the spatial-temporal scale.
  5. The role of atmospheric stability in the air quality.
  6. Models of transport and diffusion of atmospheric pollutants.
  7. Air pollution: aerosols, London as an example of the primary pollution, Los Angeles as an example of the secondary pollution, impacts of air pollution on human health.
  8. Atmospheric cycles of S and N: sulphur cycle prior and following the anthropogenic influence, sulphate aerosols, dimetil sulphide - link with phytoplanktone, climate and acid rains; N-cycle in the context of its fixation by plants and denitrification, natural and anthropogenic sources of nitrates in rain, nitrates in the drinking water.
  9. Acid rain: natural pH of rain, acid rain as a result of the pollution, impacts of the acid rain, problem of the drinking water supply and tall chimneys, situation in the Republic of Croatia.
  10. Ozone: stratospheric and tropospheric ozone (basic natural and anthropogenic mechanisms of their formation and destruction), mechanisms of the ozone layer destruction in the anthropogenic context, the history behind this problem, and possible solutions.
  11. Carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases: fossil fuels, global hydrological cycle, atmospheric C-cycle, the greenhouse effect - global warming, today evidences of the climate changes, international negotiations (legislation) on the climate, the control issues on the emission of the greenhouse gases.
  12. Metal pollution of the atmosphere: general facts about metals as the constituents of the Earth, metal content in the atmosphere, anthropogenic sources of metals in the environment, and metal behaviour in the environment (atmospheric in particular).
  13. Global changes of the atmospheric environment: case studies in the context of the industrial, ore-processing and natural processes.
