Earth's geological past

Course Description

The course "Geological History of the Earth" covers the methods of historical geology, the origin of the atmosphere, oceans, and continental crust. It also explores the structure of cratons and shields, the emergence of life, and the geological and paleogeographical evolution of the Earth from the Proterozoic to the Cenozoic era.

Examination Rules

  • The exam consists of a written test lasting 60 minutes.
  • The written test includes questions that require explanations of global and regional paleogeography from different geological eras, explanations of terms and processes, and the listing of divisions and time spans of different geological eras.
  • The exam includes 10 questions, with each complete and correct answer worth 2 points, and incomplete answers worth 1 point.
  • The grading criteria are as follows: 0-12 = insufficient; 13-14 = sufficient; 15-16 = good; 17-18 = very good; 19-20 = excellent.

  • Consultations with students regarding lectures and exercises are held via email every working day from 10:00 to 14:30, and in person by prior arrangement.
