The course "Geology of Mineral Leita" aims to introduce students to geological and geochemical processes involved in the formation of metal and non-metal ore deposits.

Course Content

The course covers a wide range of topics, including:

  • Graa Zemje, origin of magma, and elements of plate tectonics
  • Magmatic ore leita, including liquid-magmatic, crystallization differentiates, and liquid segregates
  • Carbonatites, diamondite leites, nephelinites, apatites, and titanomagnetites
  • Massive sulfides of Cyprus type, komatiite type, and late magmatic lithics
  • Post-magmatic, pegmatites, and pneumatolites (skarns, grajzens)
  • Hydrothermal ore leita, including kata, meso, and epi types
  • Sedimentary exhalative (SEDEX type) and Mississippi valley type ore leita
  • Sedimentary ore deposits, including Sabkha type and resistati
  • Precipitates and hydrolysates
  • Metamorphogenic ore leita
  • Geotectonic arrangement of magmatic, metamorphic, and sedimentary ore rocks

Teaching Methods

The course consists of:

  • 45 hours of lectures
  • 15 hours of practical exercises

Assessment

The course is assessed through:

  • Written exams
  • Oral exams

Literature

Recommended literature includes:

  1. Ore geology and industrial minerals by A.M. Evans
  2. Metal deposits in relation to plate tectonics by F.J. Sawkins

Additional Information

  • The course is taught in Croatian, but foreign students can attend with additional support in English.
  • Consultations with instructors are available by appointment.
  • The course is part of the 6th semester of the study program.

Exam Schedule

Written exams for the course, along with other related courses, are scheduled for specific dates in February, with oral exams to follow immediately after.
