Introduction to the DC-CAP Scholars Program

The UMass Lowell DC College Access Program (DC-CAP) Scholars program is designed to support students who were involved in the DC-CAP program in high school. The program aims to offer guidance, support, and a welcoming community for DC-CAP members as they begin their UMass Lowell careers and prepare for life after graduation.


Program Requirements

To be part of the DC-CAP Scholars program, students must:


  • File a FAFSA annually
  • Obtain and maintain FERPA authorization
  • Remain in good academic standing

What is Covered by the Scholarship?

The DC-CAP scholarship supports a portion of, and in some cases, all of tuition, base meal plan, and rate A housing, based on eligibility.


Will the Student Have Academic Support?

Students will have access to:


  • Tutoring on campus

  • Their DC-CAP advisor

Where Will the Students Be Living?

All students will be living in Residence Halls and are required to sign a full-year housing contract.


Will the Students Be Able to Select Their Roommate(s)?

Students may fill out a roommate matching profile to find compatible matches. They can also select their roommate by entering the student's Entry ID number, name, or the first part of their student email address.


What is the Health Insurance Policy for the Year?

Massachusetts State Law requires all college students to be enrolled in a health insurance program that meets required benefits established by the state. Students who have comparable coverage may select to waive the University Student Health Insurance Plan.


When is Orientation?

Mandatory DC College Access Program (DC-CAP) onboarding will be on August 31 for all DC-CAP cohort members. There will also be a welcome call in mid-August with current DC-CAP upperclassmen for new students to meet their peers and receive friendship, mentorship, and support.
