Program Overview
The WPI Data Science program offers a research experience for students from geographically diverse institutions around the country. This program provides access to vibrant scientific research projects and undergraduate mentorship, allowing students to learn about state-of-the-art artificial intelligence and data science techniques and technologies.
Program Details
The program has been successfully operating since 2016, focusing on challenges in areas critical to societal impact. Students work with WPI faculty and other students to perform research in Artificial Intelligence, covering topics such as:
- Digital health
- Fake and bias information detection
- Critical resource prediction Students also learn about machine learning, artificial intelligence, visualization, and big data technologies.
Research and Presentation
REU participants perform research in Artificial Intelligence and present the results of their research at an open poster session during the final week of the program. Additionally, students may present their research at scholarly venues and conferences.
Field Trips and Activities
Students participate in field trips to tech companies, providing them with hands-on experience and exposure to industry applications.
Program Outcomes
The program aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of artificial intelligence and data science techniques, as well as hands-on research experience. Students have the opportunity to work with faculty and other students, present their research, and participate in field trips to tech companies.
